Atomic Cult.

Unlike every other normal countryside, Gruver has very dynamic weather. Even though it's Texas, we don't get mail from far away. Abstractly speaking, we were in the middle of a farming township without access to the internet or anything remotely related. It was around the time when my dad goes to his job, apparently, his life was merely a run for money. When I was a child, he was a full-blown farm owner, and today, he takes care of a nuclear waste facility in Nevada, at the infamous Yucca Mountain. Once he leaves the city, he won't return till next spring.

The city is calm. It was exactly 12 years back, this day, when my mother was taken away to the Coffield Unit, the same day she died. This new type of farming is popular in the town called center pivot farming. It's really annoying, to be honest. The whole farm must be remade to fit it, but once that's done, we can really produce watermelons and tomatoes in Texas - which is wild. Though it's fairly old, some of our neighbouring farms switched a few years ago.

My brother stayed at the church for the choir, and on the way back, I saw something mildly interesting. I really thought it was a gathering of a Middle Eastern fashion subculture. But really, I was curious: did I not know this trend?

Turns out, as the guy in the oversized black cotton thobe said, it's a cult gathering. They're saying they know something about some old-sounding Latin word. I was more of amazed at people believing these made up crap. I would rather believe Australia didn't exist.

That night, I decided, what if I went there and maybe see where it takes me? I went for it. It was night, not the best time, its 44 degrees, quite cold, mostly because it gets 75' at noon. It was all bliss till I entered the door; a wave of warmth and whispering voices kept me in this half-asleep, paranoid situation.

I thought they would give me a class on something, but it turns out they won't allow people from the outside in. Okay, sure, I asked the guy near me about their values. He said,
"Well, it's not a regular cult we are watching. They're different. They're the Mayans, who inhabited the whole of central America during the early modern period before the colonial era, and today, they say this cult was put together to preach one thing."
"What thing?" I asked
"They say that the mountainous gold belt of El Salvador has rich amounts of deadly poisons they created back then, and one to get near it would vaporise within seconds. It was buried deep, covered in unfathomable amounts of gold."
"Why now? after all this time."
"They actually did try to defend mining in the region for all time, but little did the people know back then. Then there was the ban, a full mining ban across the country. But now, the government is loosening the ban, and the drills have touched ground once again."
